[A collaboration post with Day Translations – all thoughts are my own.]
Previously, I wrote about 5 ways to practice English anywhere you go, and reading a movie’s subtitles is one of the activities I love to do on daily basis. Other than practicing your English, there is quite a number of benefits of watching movies, right? Do not let anyone tell you otherwise.
Movies are the greatest source of entertainment in modern times. However, movie preferences matter from person to person. While my father and I prefer action, my mother loves to watch romance. Furthermore, not every movie is suitable for children. Hence, the parents should keep a check on this and select the film accordingly.
Some people may think that movies waste of time. Most of us have been told by our parents that watching too many movies or TV shows can be a waste of time and we should do something meaningful instead, like studying or going out playing with our friends.
There are people who watch movies as a form of escapism; they try to escape from reality. Excessive overconsumption of movies or TV shows, or any other type of media is unhealthy. Yet, in my opinion, there’s nothing wrong with watching a lot of movies, as long as it stays in healthy relations with the other areas of your life. It’s always important to keep one’s balance.
Apart from the obvious — escaping our own lives and problems for a short time — there are many documented benefits of watching movies. So, here I am going to tell you some benefits of watching movies that will surely change your mindset to a great deal.
You will agree with me that movies play a vital role when it comes to creating awareness about a particular social issue, culture, or history. At present, movies are the best medium to spread important social messages to the public at large.
I watched Troy and learn about its history. I know more about legends and culture in another country after watching Supernatural. Moreover, one movie or TV series is being released in several countries. Those movies that internationally succeed are professionally localized to their target audience to ensure that the storyline will not only be understood but will resonate with the right people in the right places. That’s why some movies become epic blockbusters while others are only popular in one country.
As a result, people living in different parts of the world can know about what happened in another country. Thus, movies also bridge the gap among global audiences.
A relatively great percentage of individuals who watch movies, do so for this sole purpose. There is a reason it is called the entertainment industry. Without the perfect dose of entertainment, your life will not be spicy at all. So the majority of people out there watch movies simply to have fun.
Seeing a great movie is where the line between culture, religion, and the social standard is drawn. Everyone no matter their religion is drawn to the cinemas as soon the latest movie is released. So, be it action, sci-fi, adventure, drama, comedy, or thriller, you can have full-on entertainment for a perfect 2-3 hours.
You can consider inspiration to be one of the prime benefits of watching movies. While the majority of best-selling movies are centered on sci-fi and action, a few movies centered on real-life events have turned out to be really great sources of inspiration to millions.
Several movies are showing the various ups and downs in the life of the central character. Through these stories, you can ensure that even ordinary people can also achieve their dreams. Language can never create a barrier in watching a good movie. Thanks to professional movie translators who provide you with accurate subtitles, you can watch movies in any language.
You need a complete break from all the tensions of life. Take a glass of wine, pizza, or popcorn, and enjoy an incredible experience on your comfortable couch. With platforms such as Netflix, getting access to the best movies from your comfort zone becomes so easy. With this said, reducing stress certainly is one of the benefits of watching movies.
You should know that we are all connected in more than one way, and the movie is one of them. Going out to a cinema is not for everyone. In most countries, it’s not possible during the pandemic. Some of us also struggle being in crowds and others just prefer to watch movies at home, alone or with family, and in their pajamas.
It doesn’t matter if you’re watching Netflix from the couch of your home or sitting comfortably in a crowded cinema. The results are the same: watching movies is good for us if we approach it the right way.
