It’s the rainy season!
In Bali, there are only two seasons: dry and wet. And my favorite time of year is the rainy season! Simply put, I prefer the atmosphere to a bright sunny day. I can do the things I want to do around the house on a rainy day because of the ambiance while hearing the sound of rainfall against my window. You can put on your incredibly cozy sweater, throw a movie marathon with a cup of coffee or hot chocolate, or get yourself a good book to read.
Rainy days actually help me be more productive at work. But, for other people, nothing can be more of a bummer than when you have your day planned for going outside and it starts to rain.
While it is true that nothing beats the warmth that comes from the sun, being indoors doesn’t mean you can’t have fun. If you can find something entertaining or useful to do at home, this shouldn’t be the case. You will be surprised at the many things that you can do when it’s raining when it seems like you have no choice but to be cooped up inside the house.
Here are 20 things to do when it’s raining that will never ever make you feel bored again! You could possibly pick one or a few of the things in here to get you preoccupied during the rainy days. Who knows? You might be able to turn whatever it is you have just discovered into your own hobby if you come to enjoy it.
Read a book
This might seem like a cliche, but reading a book has always been considered fun and productive. Curl up by the fire or heater or really anywhere cozy and lose yourself in a good book. Here are the top 22 books you need to read to crush 2022.
Watch a movie or TV shows
Some people prefer to watch their favorite movies over and over to make them feel better, while others would like to watch random movies on cable. I’ve been addicted to crime TV shows lately, such as S.W.A.T, Criminal Minds, NCIS, and White Collar.
Learn to cook your favorite meal
This only applies if you don’t know how to cook. I like spaghetti and I have made it before. I could say because all the ingredients are easy to find in any market, it’s simple and easy to make. Wouldn’t it be wonderful to be able to create and eat your favorite meal at any time without ordering or having someone else cook for you?
Do crafts
It takes the stress away. You can do cross-stitch or simple scrapbooking on a rainy day!
Enjoy a cup of coffee
You can enjoy a cup of coffee either at home or at a nearby cafe. I always have a cup of coffee during the day when working – it’s really good to have my favorite drink once a day, especially on a rainy day!
Clean Up Your Closet
This might be the best opportunity for you to give out your used clothes to charity and maybe shop for new ones.
Organize Your Gallery
Organizing your gallery both on the phone and computer is one of the most productive things you can do inside the house or on a rainy day! I don’t know how many photos I took in a day, that’s why I put ‘declutter’ day on my weekly planner.
Plan An Indoor Date
Here is something that most people will love to do on a rainy day! Plan your simple indoor date with your special one, play a game, watch a movie, or curl up by the fire or heater or really anywhere cozy.
Journaling
Write in your journal what your daily reflections are, what you’re grateful for, who you’re grateful for, etc.
Planning
Create your monthly vision, plan your content for the next few months, and write down what goals you want to achieve next month.
Update your social media and blog
On a rainy day, plan out your social media content or take photos for your content, whatever it is to update your social media. If you have a blog, you can also update your old posts or revamp any photos for your blog! That’s something that I enjoy doing when I’m not creating content.
Read helpful blogs
Explore blogs about families, self-care, and personal development—something that will bring you positivity.
For your own good, and also for my mental health during the current situation, I read more blogs about personal development, well-being, and self-care-related content. That’s really helping me to stay positive!

Watch a full season of TV series
Watch a full-season TV series that you’ve always wanted to see but never had the time for. My favorite TV series so far are The Walking Dead, Supernatural, Vampire Diaries, The Original, Criminal Minds, and Sherlock Holmes—something that relates to fantasy, horror, and thrillers; it makes me feel refreshed.
Exercise
If you have a treadmill at home, or other equipment that will help you get fit, do so.
Play with your pets
If you have pets, make time to play with them during rainy days. I know that dogs are afraid of rain and thunder, so I always make sure to stay with them and hug them on a rainy day!
And if you’re a dog lover who is looking for gifts, here are some great recommendation gifts for your bestie.
Make delicious waffles and pancakes
If you can bake or enjoy cooking, you can make waffles or pancakes for yourself or your family. Spend the rainy day doing something you enjoy!
Eat cookies with milk
It will make any rainy day feel so much better! Hot chocolate, milk, or coffee with cookies.
Do your nails
Put colors on your nails that you never dared to use before. Treat yourself to some grooming. Self-waxing kits, manicure sets, the whole enchilada. You could even cut your own hair!
Have a nice little chat with the family
While eating ice cream, playing with your dog, or drinking a coffee, it’s nice to have a little chat with your family.
Take a long lap
The last, and my favorite, is taking a long nap! Don’t set an alarm. Just close your eyes and let the sounds of the storm lull you to sleep.
You don’t have to do all of these things on one rainy day all at once. You just need to know that there are many fun things that you can do even without sunshine. All in all, rainy days aren’t that bad for people who don’t like rain. It might look gloomy, but you can turn it into a bright and happy day!

These sound like great ideas especially as rainy days are coming
For exercise I play dodgeball with my young daughter to make it fun
Sounds really fun to me! I love playing with my dogs or doing some stuff on my laptop 😀
These are all my favorite things to do on any day! Thanks for sharing! I didn’t realize that a rainy day could be so fun and productive. Here in America, rain or shine we have to get out of the house for work. I love rainy days but when I don’t have to go to work lol
Those are my favorites things to do on any day, haha but I love to do it more on a rainy day since I love the vibe!
I swear it has NOT STOPPED RAINING for like a month! I usually love the rain but it’s really annoying me haha (we’ve also had some big leaks in our roof which isn’t ideal either). These are all fab things to do. I like to dedicate a rainy day to having a declutter!
In Bali, it hasn’t rained for several days – sometimes some days are just cloudy and some days it rains only briefly! I enjoy reading a book and having a declutter to my wardrobe and computer on a rainy day 😀
I love reading on rainy days, but lately I have been loving The Great British Baking Show. I could so watch a whole season in a day. 🙂
So many fun ideas, great to keep them in mind as we get into the colder months. Almost every day in the UK is a rainy day so this is perfect! 🙂

I’m so happy I’ve found someone who loves the rain just as much as I do. It is my favourite! It was just raining outside about 30 minutes ago and I enjoyed it so much. These are really fun activities to do on a rainy day. I must say, sleep happens to be one of my favourite things to do on a rainy day. I love this!
