When I started blogging, I didn’t know much about blog themes and decided to go with the free ones. After a while, I pick a WordPress theme from Studio Mommy, which I use for over a year.
We’re all aware of how vital it is for your blog to produce content while also marketing your business. The blog has evolved into the heart of any successful website, guiding audiences with relevant, engaging information and ultimately satisfying them to the point where they convert and subscribe to receive more.
But, what if your blog design is missing the point?
When it comes to blog themes, there are numerous aspects to consider, such as brand color, font sizes, text width, social icons, and many more. With so many factors to consider, starting a new blog theme can be intimidating.
The blog design is very important for branding and providing a nice user experience. Also, make sure you have a page builder installed, such as Elementor, which works with any WordPress theme and allows you to create gorgeous pages. You should absolutely start utilizing it right away.
Furthermore, once you’ve chosen a blog theme that makes you happy, you’ll feel much more connected to your site. Every popular WordPress blog takes excellent care of its blog theme. Don’t waste countless hours customizing the theme or changing your blog theme on a regular basis, as this is negative for branding.
How to pick a WordPress theme
Before launching your own blog, make a goal for yourself that within two weeks (or less), you will select a theme and move ahead in your career. I recommend investing time in finding a theme that fits your personality and blog and then setting it up. All you have to do is install it and customize it to match your brand. After that, concentrate solely on your strengths, such as content creation.
There are many free and premium themes out there, and you will have to choose one from 10000’s options for a WordPress theme. When choosing a WordPress theme for your blog, you should focus on many other aspects like the design, support, speed, and ease of customization.
I like to purchase WordPress themes or digital works on Etsy. Etsy offers a lot of tools to support and help your blog biz, starting from unique fonts, stock photos, blog themes, Pinterest templates, logos, and anything you need to create your brand.
I can help you with a few options on this post. I will be sharing a few tips that will help you select a WordPress theme for your blog. You can always go for a free theme, but with time, premium themes are usually better as they are constantly updated with time and make your blog looks professional.
From my experience, I never had any issues with premium themes because they are usually supported with an easy tutorial like how to change the colors and font, set up your sidebar, landing page, Instagram page, etc.
For those who are not really great with customization, there are many premium WordPress themes out there that will you to download pre-designed themes for a cheaper price and it will give your blog a professional look.
If you are looking for a free WordPress theme, there are many you can choose from WordPress itself. But, a free theme won’t give you the freedom to customize your blog and can’t make your blog looks stunning. I recommend upgrading or purchasing the theme (which I did) to show that you are a professional blogger even when you are just a beginner like me and if you want to make money blogging.

Guide for selecting a perfect WordPress theme
Matches your personality and blog type
Merry of August is a blogging and lifestyle blog that I created back in 2020. I’ve always wanted to design a site in pastel and cozy colors that aren’t too bright for the eyes but also look visually appealing. When I plan to start a blog, I know exactly what design or color palette I want for it.
If you have a tech blog, look for tech blog themes. If you have a food blog, look for food blog themes. This helps you to narrow down your search and you end up picking the theme which matches your blog type and will set the perfect mood for your audiences.
It is important to select your blog theme according to your niche. If your blog is about fashion, food, and finance, they prefer to select a professional niche theme.
Easy customization
After looking at blog themes that fit with your blog niche, the next thing you should focus on is whether the theme is easy to customize or not. There are many customizable themes available that are easy to modify according to your requirements and you even don’t have to be tech-savvy or learn about PHP coding.
You can play with themes if the theme provides you with easy customization, even if you are not a genius at customizing themes.
Features
There are many WordPress themes that provide you with useful features like different comment styles, customize the dashboard, and so on. Or many companies like to keep the theme code as minimalistic as possible, therefore they will have a list of selected plugins that add these features.
When purchasing premium themes, such features are available for free. You can select one that suits your requirements. You can always achieve many of these tasks with the help of WordPress plugins.
Responsive & mobile-friendly
Well, this is very important. Don’t buy a WordPress theme if it’s not responsive. Ever.
A responsive theme will ensure your content is readable on all screen sizes: mobile, tablet, or desktop. This is a feature that you can’t compromise with. The good news is: all the modern WordPress themes are responsive.
It’s not difficult to set up a WordPress theme. After purchasing, you just need to download the file (usually .zip) and then follow the instructions to use it on your WordPress. I’ve done this before and it only requires no more than a day to get my WordPress blog ready!
You can also change the color, widget, sidebar, or anything you want. You don’t have to make your blog exactly like the theme you purchased.
As time flies, you will know and learn more about what elements to add or change in your blog to make people keep coming back for more!
Have you picked a WordPress theme for your blog? Are you satisfied with your blog’s look?
