Who am I?
Who am I? Should I start it by introducing my six-word name? Lol.
You may call me Merry; it’s also part of my long Balinese name. I am a Balinese and Hindu native. I have lived in Bali for 27 years (basically the whole of my life), am an Indonesian citizen, and can speak English quite well.
I enjoy spending time alone, watching thrillers, horror, and action movies, visiting beaches, bookstores, and zoos, and drinking cappuccino wherever I go. Other than that, I like to hang out with my close friend at the nearby coffee shop and enjoy the scenery.
I have worked as a freelance translator for 7 years. I used to work for two foreign companies in Bali for four years. In addition, I was contracted for two years to translate online stories from China. The experiences I have had as a freelance translator over the years made me decide to start my own website in 2020. As a content creator, I mostly spend my daily time in front of my computer to write, research, engage, and grow my blog.
Why do I start blogging?
Personally, blogging is no longer the simple online diary that I discovered back in 2007. It’s now your ticket to a rewarding career, incredible opportunities, massive self-improvement, and personal growth.
For me, blogging is a job I can do flexibly around my family, the opportunity to meet a whole bunch of new friends, the chance of learning new skills, and the huge amounts of happiness that come from doing something that I enjoy the most.
Blogging gives me a creative outlet to share my thoughts, experiences, ideas, and passions. It’s like my own book, where I am both the writer and the editor. I get to decide what articles to write; I have the creative freedom to write what I like.
Other than those above, blogging allows me to be my own boss, work the hours I want to work, and call the shots. I can make all the decisions on how I will grow my blog, how much time per week I’ll dedicate to it, and how I will monetize it. I have no boss, and I have the freedom to work the way I want to work. In fact, some people have their own work style and lifestyle that you need to respect.
Back when I started my first blog in 2020, I had zero tech skills—well, I knew how to use Photoshop, email, and social media, but my designing skill is zero. It’s easy to learn little by little, and here I am now, the writer, the editor, the designer, the publicist, the marketing department, sometimes the photographer, the finance department, the sales team, and the tech support team—all rolled into one.
Blogging teaches me to be more patient, take risks, seize opportunities, say no to the wrong things, plan carefully, set goals, manage my time well, and much more besides. I can say without a doubt that I am a better person because of blogging.
I have learned and developed so many skills as a blogger. I’ve learned how to build a website from scratch, how to do SEO and basic accounting, how to promote on social media, and much, much more!
One of the biggest advantages is the amazing blogging community. While other bloggers are your competitors, in reality, they are your colleagues, your friends, and your support network. Need feedback on your blog? The blogging community will help you out. Have you hit a blogging milestone? The blogging community will celebrate with you. Insomnia at 3 a.m.? Well, I know some bloggers up at that time to chat with.

What am I going to be blogging about?
Merry of August is a blogging and lifestyle blog. I write about blogging, personal growth, productivity, seasonal and gift guides, wellness and self-care, and self-improvement. It is a cozy online home for content creators to help establish a successful blog while also focusing on how we learn and appreciate life as it revolves around personal, family, and environmental life.
Who am I writing for?
Rather than writing as an expert, professional, or something extremely technical, I want to write my content in the manner in which I would speak to a friend. I tried to make them as understandable and enjoyable as I could.
Even though along the way I can’t deny that I’m going to monetize my blog, I will keep my foundation strong: this is a cozy home, so I want my readers to feel at ease and enjoy the content without difficulties.
How can my readers get involved?
There are many ways to support content creators and they are FREE.
You can leave a genuine comment on a post that interests you. You can share with me your opinions or a disagreement. That feedback would be so much appreciated for the growth of my blog.
Other than that, sharing the articles with your friends on social media would be really helpful as well. It can boost this site’s awareness and help people find positive things that can improve their lives.
If any questions you have, I can be contacted through email or Twitter (where I am mostly active during the day).
