GUEST POST | Today, I’m going to be talking you guys through my lockdown self-care routine whilst on furlough! I know from personal experience how boring it can be when you’re furloughed, as you don’t have a job to go to so it can be hard to find ways to keep yourself busy whilst also looking after your mental health and wellbeing.
Some days you just need that extra self-care, right? Thank you so much to Merry for giving me the opportunity to guest post on her lovely blog. So, without further ado, here’s my lockdown self-care routine whilst on furlough:
Give yourself a lie in
Ok, don’t take this one TOO far… Don’t do what I sometimes do and wake up at 2 pm. That is not going to have you feeling ready for the day ahead and will most likely just leave you with a groggy headache. However, giving yourself a bit of a lie-in (an hour or 2 extra sleep is what I’d recommend, but of course it’s up to you) can give you the extra rest that you need so you wake up feeling revitalized and ready for your lockdown self-care routine to begin!
Indulge in your favourite food
This lockdown self-care routine wouldn’t be complete without a lil pasta… or bread… or chocolate… or crisps… or all four. Having a bit of your favorite food is the best way to self indulge on a self-care day. Everything is good in moderation, but a little extra now and again never hurt anyone!
I always allow myself a day of eating whatever I want at least once a week, as sometimes it just feels so nice to indulge and not care! However, I understand for some people this might be difficult. If you are currently recovering from an eating disorder, I have a blog post about how to deal with weight restoration. My Instagram and Twitter DM’s are also always open for anyone if they need a chat!
Do a face mask
Doing a face mask and my skincare is my favorite part of my lockdown self-care routine! Lying in a bath with a bath bomb, some bubble bath, or some bath foam and a face mask is my ideal self-care night routine when I’ve had a rough or stressful day, or even just as a lovely way to round off a relaxing self-care day. Personally, I would recommend the 7th Heaven face masks as they’re super cheap but still do the job really well and feel spa-like, which is perfect for a relaxing day/night.
Read a book
This is my favorite way to both start a self-care day, as well as end it. Reading is the most relaxing hobby for me, as it helps me escape into a whole other world and live vicariously through the characters’ lives. It’s a great way to escape from the current circumstances and really, truly relax.
I have a whole blog post I wrote on World Book Day about all the reasons I love books and why I think they are perfect for a self-care day! My favorite book of 2020 was The Flatshare, and I can’t wait to finally order The Switch, which is another book by the same author, as I loved the other one so much! I’d definitely recommend relaxing with a book someday throughout your lockdown self-care routine, as it will relax you so much.
So, there we have it! My lockdown self-care routine. What do you like to get u to on a self-care day? Do you like to do any of the things I mentioned above? Thank you so much to Merry for letting me guest post on her blog and I really hope you guys enjoyed this self-care post! Stay safe, guys.

To be honest, I’m finding this lockdown harder than the others. I love getting up early but it just doesn’t seem possible at the moment. I slept in until 11 today and I NEVER do that. But I’m accepting the fact that that’s what my body and mind need right now and I’m rolling with it. So for me, that’s a huge form of self care!
Nothing is best like taking care of yourself in whatever way you want. I also indulge in eating my favourite things and also been reading blogs and the Bible mostly so those are helping me. Thank you for sharing these self care tips they also great.
So good!! Really need to focus on self care especially at the moment. Thanks for sharing xx
I’m having such a hard time waking up early, but I decided to listen to my body and if it needs that half-hour longer in bed, it’s fine! Reading books and having a mask are my favourite things to do for some self-care! Thanks for sharing x
I’m personally a huge fan of “read a book.” 😉 But I love all of these options. Lockdown hasn’t made my life much different because I’ve already been working from home for years and I’m a natural homebody, but I still appreciate posts like these for when I need inspiration!
How about a night with good food and drink and then a reading book session nearby the chimney this winter. That would be fun. Definitely worth trying. Thank you for sharing!
I’m finding this lockdown so hard. I think it’s the weather that’s making it feel so much harder. I’ve been reading lots and having lots of lie ins too.
Circumstance throws up on a loop sometimes, but I love that you have found ways not to struggle in the water but rather float. Reading is so relaxing; losing myself in a good story is less of a distraction and more a way of living. 🙂
Thanks for sharing!
Yes! One of my absolute favourite things is ordering my favourite food on a self-care day. I love eating something I didn’t cook haha Giving myself extra time in bed also helps. Thanks for sharing x

Such a lovely post! Indulge in your favourite food & reading a book are my favourite things to do for myself. Lockdown 3.0 is really kicking my arse, more so than the others.
Great post! I’ve been on furlough since April (I’m now on flexi-furlough) and at times it’s so hard – I think the best thing I’ve done is live intuitively and take a day as it comes x
