Carving out cozy home office ideas that not only inspire creativity but also help you reach peak productivity when you’re working from your house can be relatively easy. And it doesn’t require a dedicated room or ample square footage either.
During the pandemic, most people are spending more time at home. Surely there are many productive things you can do at home. One of them is decluttering, which is my favorite thing to do during the weekend.
While decluttering your home can make you healthier and happier, creating or redesigning your home office can help you generate the best ideas and boost your creativity. This is especially true in the places where you spend most of your day, like your workspace. If you feel unmotivated when sitting down to work, then you know it’s time to refresh your workspace and switch up your surroundings.
If you’re like me and plan to create your cozy home office near in the future, read on for a few simple cozy home office decor ideas that will help you turn your place of work (wherever that may be) into a place of joy, inspiration, and somewhere you love to be every day. Because, let’s face it, we’re all spending a lot of time at our home desks lately.
And when you’re thinking about a cozy home office, get creative with the space you already have—even if that means making use of a spare corner in your bedroom or an unused closet.
Small Writing Desk
A desk is the main piece in your home office, whether it’s a separate room or a small nook in your bedroom. Consider renovating the existing piece—with paint, stencils, and stickers—and changing its tabletop, as such an idea will save your budget.
If you don’t feel like renovating, go make or buy a new piece, considering the amount of space you have and the style you like. If it’s a small nook, think of making a floating or built-in desk to save space.
If you have enough space, take a look at many small writing desks—there are tons of styles, colors, materials, and looks that can make a statement.
Make Space Feel Cozier
Though you likely won’t reach peak productivity perched on your bed, you don’t have to design a sterile space either.
“I love to give all offices a cozy feel by using lamps with a warm glow (2700K color temperature) and by adding other homey touches, such as candles, plants, and soft things like throw pillows and blankets,” says Tracy Morris of Tracy Morris Design.
Give Yourself A Painting
Since it’s not a common area, your home office is a great place to take design risks with art choices. I always like to add wall art to my room, it’s pleasant to the eyes!
Personalized It Based On Your Interests
One of the best cozy home office decor ideas is to create it based on your interests. Whether you’re a coffee lover or a book lover, you can get creative with your interest in the design of your cozy home office. You can use warm colors, patterns, and art to decorate your workspace.
Consider Cabinets or Storage
Think about the interiors of your cabinets or storage too. Storage is integral to any home office. So many home offices get cluttered simply because there isn’t a place for “stuff” to live. File drawers or a pull-out printer cabinet make for a clutter-free space. Wall-mounted drawers can be bought separately, grouped together, or stacked for hidden storage.
Play With Decorative Items
Since you spend most of your daily time in your workspace, your space mustn’t cause mess-related stress. To that end, desk accessories are key, be it a good basket (or a small collection of baskets in an assortment of shapes, sizes, and textures) or trays to corral messes and keep your desktop looking tidy.
Accessories can easily refresh any space, not only a home office, and they have a giant advantage: they won’t cost much and can be easily DIYed.
What accessories to add? Potted plants for a fresh feel, pillows, blankets on the couch, mirrors and artwork, and much more—it depends on what you love and what style you’ve chosen.
Add Wallpaper
Yes, this is the most obvious and popular idea, which suits a cozy home office that isn’t a nook. You can also use paints, stickers, wallpaper, and other embellishments as usual. Accent walls or all the walls done with new material—it’s up to you.
Go for stone, brick, wood, plaster (this is a hot trend), paneling, and many other materials that you feel like. Take some time to refresh this base – you won’t regret it and will get a totally new space!
Focus on Lighting
Bright ideas call for a brightly lit room. For small offices where floor and desktop space may be limited, narrow sconces work wonders and lend a more laid-back mood when put on a dimmer.
Include Comfy Furniture
Adding a chaise or a sofa into the design helps keep the style of your office consistent with the vibe throughout the rest of your home. It also allows you to switch back and forth between your desk and a more lounge-y area throughout the day.
Do you have other ideas on how to create your own cozy home office?

This was such an inspiring read, Merry! I don’t have a desk, but I would surely add some new touches around my bedroom where I spend most of the day! Would I have space I would add that amazing chaise lounge, maybe one day! Will have to do with some stationery and paintings for now.

We have the same situation, I think. I have a small desk inside my bedroom which I spend my most time there lol would like to have my own office someday 😀
There are some incredible ideas here. Nothing makes me feel cozier than a soft blanket that I can curl up in. I have one draped over the back of my office chair and another folded up off to the side for when I need that extra warmth.
Thank you, Britt! A throw pillow and a soft blanket are my cozy to go 😀

Very cute ideas here! I have a laptop, so I also bought a small desk and it’s more than enough for me! I also have a small cabinet and a good light, but also lots of natural light, so it’s a pretty perfect spot. However, I could do with some extra decorations, so thank you for inspiring me!
These are all great ideas. I incorporated a few of this in my little corner office in the living room, but I will be adding some lighting and paintings. Thanks for all of these great ideas.
