[A collaboration post – all thoughts are my own.]

It’s always fun to try something new, yet we often get into the trap of going through the same routines every day. It’s simple to get into routines, whether you’re required to attend meetings on weekdays or sleep all day on the weekends. For those who have children, finding new things to do is harder to manage.
So what new things can you do today?
Sometimes all you need to do is change things up a little and adjust your routine. No matter where you live, and even on a short budget, you can quickly complete everything on this list! Today, give one of these 10 new ideas a try; you’ll be glad you did.
New Things To Do Today
Here are some suggestions if you’re looking for places to go today, new things to do today, or just something to do today in general.
Visit a place in your city that you haven’t explored much
You may just find a new place to love. I enjoy exploring new coffee shops in my neighborhood. Since everything got back to normal in 2021, there have been plenty of brand-new coffee shops opening up all throughout Bali. There are new cafes that provide co-working areas or a relaxing ambiance for working.
I believe this is so because more people are coming to terms with the idea that work may be done remotely or because many professionals are seeking out fresh environments. One of the most special activities you may engage in, especially if you want to change your surroundings, is visiting different locations. When you explore a new place, you will renew your sense of adventure in many ways.
Learn ten phrases in a new language
Even though learning a language is difficult, it is one of the most worthwhile activities you will ever do. Despite the fact that English is not my native tongue, I have been studying it since junior high. There are still a lot of terms and phrases that I don’t know. I feel fairly comfortable conversing with English speakers when I use it. Just be patient when learning a new language. Start with greetings and move on to conversational phrases.
Listen to a genre of music you haven’t tried before
Try a new genre that you wouldn’t often listen to, and don’t be afraid to try it. You can unwind with music as a type of therapy. What’s your favorite genre?
Try a new cuisine–what about French, Indian or Korean?
It is quite exciting to try out a new dish. You’ll be astounded by the explosion of flavors you experience when trying new cuisines. When it comes to trying new flavors, push yourself as much as you can. Who knows, maybe this advice can help you discover your new favorite dish.
Visit your local library and borrow some books for the weekend
Reading can be your little escape from reality. Anytime I have free time, I enjoy reading books. I haven’t had a chance to visit the newly relocated of our neighborhood library yet. Next week, I’m going back to hunt for more books to keep me entertained. My go-to activity is reading at all times. Reading allows you to put yourself in the characters’ situations and gain a fresh perspective on the world.

Visit a local museum or art gallery
Enjoying art may not be for everyone, but it never hurts to try. I haven’t been to every museum and gallery in Bali because there are so many of them. I truly enjoy going to a Bali museum about masks, and I also want to go to another one. You may even be surprised at how much art can make you feel things.
Learn a new skill–what about sewing, gardening, or cooking?
You can pick a short-term skill that could be done in a single afternoon. This can include learning how to cook a certain dish, or painting on a canvas. I just bought a painting kit and I start working on it every weekend. Well, I also plan to save up to buy an organ so I can play it at home. This is so much fun! You can also learn something more long-term such as learning how to surf, play tennis, or play the guitar.
Research the culture of a different country online–what about Greece, Japan, or France?
Above are places I want to visit one day. In the future, when you travel to these places, you will be prepared with knowledge. Being able to compare different cultures with your own is another beautiful aspect of knowing about them.
My work as a translator exposed me to the various cultural differences around the world. I get knowledge of different countries cultures and ways of life by translating stories or subtitling movies.
Make a photo album of a recent holiday
Don’t let your memories get lost on your computer hard drive; make a special keepsake album of your trip. Since I’m not a very good photographer, I rarely snap pictures while I’m traveling. However, I do want to print some of the pictures and create an album. Looking at these photos will make me remember all the happy memories I’ve had during my trip.
Plan a day trip to somewhere outside your city
Because I didn’t have a lot of work at the end of each month, I always plan a trip. There are so many beautiful places in Bali that I want to visit. Your mental well-being will improve only by seeing a fresh environment. You can take a spontaneous drive without having a specific destination in mind. Who knows, you may discover a new restaurant or destination you’ll end up loving.
To change your routine, start by asking yourself what you can do right now. You’ve finally got suggestions for enjoyable new things to do today to keep your life interesting, thanks to the above-mentioned activities. Remember that trying new things out is a sort of self-care, so you shouldn’t feel bad if you want to.

I find that visiting my local library is great for my mental health. It gives me chance to live mindfully and get away from work. Thank you for sharing x

Wow French?! Lovely idea. I might need to relearning Japanese too 😀 Thanks for reading, Caroline x
All wonderful ideas!
Though I haven’t practiced it in a while now, I have been learning Sign Language! I used to know the whole alphabet and a few other signs.. Idk why I don’t learn a new skills- I have all the time to as i’m job searching! Or even go back to moving my body more 😅I tend to either get frustrated when I don’t get it right away, or just.. forget about it.
I’d also suggest to look at local events you can schedule and attend! On Oct. 1st we went to a LocalFest 🙂 Something unusual (it was our town’s first one), we had fun looking around the local merchants, ate from a food truck and listen to a local artist.
Sign language? That’s awesome! Definitely agree with local events, we have a lot of upcoming events here in Bali and a Japanese Festival in November 😀 Thanks so much for reading, Kristina 😀
Visit a museum in my city, trying new resturants and take more strolls around my city are all things I try to do! Sometimes I can’t keep up with my routine, with so many thing to do, so it would be hard to introduce new things… but when I get out I always remind myself that there’s so much of Rome that I don’t know. I just need to focus more on the fact that I need to try and not end up in the usual place when I’ve something to do
Thanks, Cam! I like to visit a new place every month, but it depends on my schedule too. Hope I can visit Rome someday 😀
